Kansas is always mocked in the entertainment world and I'm afraid this blog isn't going to help.

4am party
So this morning at 4am we could hear Emily laughing hysterically in her crib, actually thought she was crying at first and since I had been up with her at 3am I woke up Sean to go investigate. Well, Mr. Hilarious Dancer was in there putting on a show for the girls, apparently he couldn't sleep. So Emily was standing in her crib just enjoying the entertainment. Patrick was shuttled back to bed, I heard some stern words, and Emily laid right back down herself. He paid the price though, he crashed out after school this morning and not only did I transfer him from the van to the couch, but I transferred him back to the van again to go get the girls. We'll see how tonight goes... I do prefer dancing to him crawling into our bed to cough on us. He did that last night too and the night before he was thrilled to discover that Daddy was up working in his office so he had half a bed to himself. Might need to put that gate back on his doorway.

Did we survive?
After spending many hours cooking and just as many cleaning up I was then reminded that some clean up is worse than dishes. Anna was the (hopefully) final barfer this round and I am so glad that we put in hardwood floors and haven't gotten rugs yet. It was so bad that I probably would have ripped out the carpets if we hadn't already. Megan decided to take Friday to "not feel well" and she spent most of it reading in bed. I think she just wanted a break from everyone and some quiet time to read but that is fine with me and far better than making me clean up more barf. Sean also had a touch of not feeling well but no barf and instead of reading he needed some quiet time to play his playstation 2 or whatever it is he snuck into his new office. Do I sound suspicious?
I think we unpacked the last of the boxes finally and Scrooge perked up considerably when he had time to ahem, "sort" the toys as he unpacked them. Just making room for xmas toys he claims. I still have quite a few rooms that I don't consider finished but I've moved on to xmas decor for now. The trees sort of survived the move but we can't find any outdoor outlets so I declare us off the hook for exterior xmas lights. No one can see the house from the street and I won't let Sean up on a ladder anyway. No, no, I force him to rewatch the ND vs USC game on the computer instead. I do consider that his xmas gift this year, he has waited a long time.
The one thing I didn't get around to on Thanksgiving was dessert which is so unlike me so I made up for it today and bought many pumpkin desserts when I was hungry at the grocery store. I never knew there were so many but I am bound and determined to try them all. I had to fuel up to take the 3 older kids to see Tangled this afternoon. It was great for a kid's movie, better than Patrick's behavior but not as good as the wine I had when I got home. Cheers to another 5 day weekend!

In the clear?
It turns out that the bug we have goes away in 24 hours if you aren't 3 years old and keep insisting on eating and drinking which just prolongs the barfing. The girls and Sean have been spared, knock on wood. I was fine today and even made it to the grocery store tonight so we will have more than turkey tomorrow. After years of Thanksgiving on our own I at least know to buy the turkey in advance, unlike some young gal tonight whom I saw picking out a rock solid bird. Ah, what fun she will have tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to my 17 loyal readers!

Happy Barfsgiving!
I was hit hard with Patrick's bug this morning and then Emily had a couple of episodes. I even had to beg Sean to come home from work, where they were doing some mass casualty drill. That's right, he was treating fake patients. Meanwhile his real children had the run of the not-so-childproofed house. Patrick threw up a couple more times for good measure but then helped himself to some peaches and cereal while I was passed out and Emily napped. Hoping I am on the upswing now, helps that I am not 3 and can understand that if I eat or drink I will barf some more. Just kicking off the holiday season 5 pounds lighter, we'll see how cooking Thanksgiving dinner goes. It may not happen until Friday or Saturday, depending on who is barfing when. So much to do around here as usual but for now I am catching up on my sleep. Love that my computer loft is warmer than the rest of the house, it's the only way I can motivate myself to crawl out of bed. Might have to sleep up here tonight to keep Sean away from the germs or I suppose he is happy to go over to his office. No doubt he has had enough barf clean up for one day, the man needs a break.

Anna Time
Poor Anna is just one of the neglected middle children and it has been worse than usual this fall since we've been so busy. On Sunday Patrick was sick, Emily was napping, and Megan was extra, extra whiny about going to church, so I decided to just take Anna and play it up as our special time together. It was the longest mass ever, all sorts of extra stuff going on, lucky Anna! Clearly I am not the fun parent. The promise of a trip to Target to spend birthday money kept her on pretty good behavior and then I took her out to lunch at a place I picked (NOT Wendy's). Wait until she finds out about her next outing, to get a haircut which she hates. Sean did get a picture of her in her new dress from Nana and she picked out the boots herself. I should have taken her shoe shopping now that I think about it. Ah, maybe Santa can handle that.
Almost Unpacked
I still can't find my cell phone charger but I did find the frog food in the van today, finally. Can't believe those frogs are still alive. Sean wanted me to just let them go in the backyard (freedom!) but alas, they are swimming frogs. I have managed to condense the junk room down to a junk box, a big victory. Someday I hope for just a junk drawer. And just when I think I am done with boxes I walk into another room and realize I forgot some. Ah, the toys, we will have those boxes for a while because I don't even want to unpack the rest. With Christmas coming we could just start over, although I am hoping Santa brings them a trip someplace instead of a sleigh full of pink plastic choking hazards. Ah, just realized that by the time I finish hanging stuff on the walls here it will be time to decorate for Christmas. I am going to need a lot of caffeine to rally for that.

Faux Birthday Party!
Oh, the fourth child, just given some cheap cake at an impromptu hot dog roasting party. Emily seemed to enjoy it and everyone else enjoyed the fire pit. Sean and Patrick picked out the cake and Patrick begged for it all day. Glad he didn't have too much, I think purple frosting barf would have been a challenge for the washing machine. After doing the usual 5 loads of laundry yesterday I thought I would be done for a while, but no... another 5 loads of barf laundry today. Rugs, blankets, towels, clothes, what fun! Hope no friends got the bug.
